VBS FAQ
or,
Everything you ever wanted to know about Vacation Bible School (but
were afraid to ask)
FAQ
is Internet
jargon
for
"Frequently
Asked
Questions."
Here are the
answers to the questions many parents ask about Calvary Hill's Vacation
Bible School (also known as VBS). We
hope
you find this information helpful!
Q:
When is Vacation Bible
School?
A: Vacation Bible
School usually begins the second SUNDAY in July. VBS
Family Night is on Friday.
Q: What time is Vacation Bible School?
A: Vacation Bible
School meets Sunday-Friday nights
from 6:00- 8:30 p.m.
Q: Why is Calvary Hill's VBS at night?
A: This
is a special night
session for families who work
and whose children are in childcare during the day- this Vacation Bible
School is especially for
you!
Q: How much does Vacation
Bible School cost?
A: Vacation Bible School is FREE to everyone!
Q: My child is on summer break- the last thing he/she wants to do is go
to "school."
A: VBS is absoloutely NOT like "School!" VBS is a fun time-
we
meet in groups by grades, and we do have a time of Bible Study- but we
also have crafts, music, games, snacks and a real fun time!
It's
more like a party than school!
Q:
What should my child
wear to Vacation Bible School?
A: Dress comfortably. Shorts, jeans, t-shirts are good.
Sneakers
rather than sandals are preferable, as there is a time for games, some
of which involve
running and jumping.
SPECIAL
NOTE: PLEASE- NO "HEELIES" OR SKATE
TYPE SHOES. They are not safe in the building
and they
scuff non-carpeted surfaces. Kids caught "heeling"
anywhere inside the church facilities will have their
skate wheels removed from their shoes. We will gladly give
you
the skate wheels back at the end of the day.
Q:
Should my child eat
dinner before he/she comes?
A: YES. Although we have a snack time during Vacation Bible
School, it is not an adequate substitue for dinner.
Q:
Where is the
church?
A:

for a map and directions.
Q: When I get to the church, where do I go?
A:
We ask that everyone enter using the Fellowship Hall entrance- this is
the second entrance on the North side of the building (not the one with
the overhang, but the one with the staircase). This is where everyone
will meet before and after VBS every night.
Q:
Must I come in every
night or can I just drop off my children?
A: We ask that you come in for the beginning of Vacation Bible School
on the first night your children attend (Sunday night). At
the
end of VBS every night, we ask you to come inside and "claim" your
children.
Q:
Must I come inside to
get my children every night? Can't they just come to my car?
A: We understand the inconvenience that parking the car and coming
inside can be. We only ask this for the saftey and security
of
the children. With so many children, and many new to us, we
ask
that you come inside. If you live in the immediate area
around
Calvary Hill, and you wish for your children to walk home, we can make
special arrangements with you to have them escorted home.
Q:
This is great!
Are you sure all this is free?
A: Yes! We care about you and your family, and we look forward to
getting to know you and your children.
Q:
What is the "Missions
Offering" I have heard about? Must I give?
A: We do have a Missions Offering during the Worship Rally (where
everyone meets during VBS every night). The proceeds from
this
offering will go to support our MISSIONS: POSSIBLE missions project
supporting missionaries to Mexico and Ethopia. The offering is in the
form of a "penny rally"
where
the boys and the girls compete collecting pennies. In no way is anyone
required to give, but any gift is appreciated. At our family
night, the two penny continers are weighed, and the winner is
determined.
Q:
How can I sign up?
A: There are several methods to register. Paper registration forms are
readily available at the church. We also invite you to register online.
Online registration is available by clicking
here.
Q:
I
have
more
questions!
A:
Please feel free to contact
us via
email, or call the church office
at (904) 721-5730. We'd be
happy
to answer your questions!
